Shopping decisions impact the environment

by Patricia Murphy, Conservation

shopping decisionsAs part of our conservation effort we will be partnering with Publix to learn to make smart shopping decisions when purchasing produce, meats and other items and how our decisions impact the environment and if done correctly can reduce our carbon footprint.

Publix has an amazing green initiative and many of their programs are available to the public. For example, if you bring used egg cartons or other styrofoam products to the recycling center in front of your local store, Publix incurs the costs of transporting and recycling for us. Wow, easy peasy, right?

Our first event will be at the Publix Apron’s cooking school and is entitled “Simple Steps to a Healthier Lifestyle” and is sponsored by Uncle Ben’s. We will join Publix Apron’s Cooking School chefs as they teach us innovative ways to transform our favorite recipes into delicious dishes that fit into a healthy, heart smart diet. We will learn interactively from the Apron’s chefs how to prepare flavorful nutritious meals using seasonal ingredients “designed to tempt your taste buds”. :)

This class is being offered August 21st from 10am to Noon at the Publix Apron’s Cooking School in Citrus Park. To reserve your seat please contact the event planning desk at 813-926-4465.
