The Public Issues Community Service programs focus on Citizenship, Veterans Affairs, Emergency Preparedness and Safety. As the Public Issues CSPC, I am excited about the projects already planned for the year and certainly welcome any new ideas and projects!

October is filled with several projects and events for the Public Issues Community Service program!

I am pleased to announce that Mickey Castor, president of the Hillsborough County League of Women Voters, will be a guest speaker for our October club meeting. She will discussing the importance of citizenship and will be providing our members with detailed information on the eleven amendments on the ballot this year.

Also, planned for October is the NTJWC’s participation in Make A Difference Day. The James A Haley Hospital has a medical foster home program that provides 50 veterans an alternative to nursing home placement. The staff and caregivers will be provided with wish lists from these veterans and our members will be purchasing items to help fulfill the lists. In addition, members may volunteer to help deliver these gifts and spend time with these wonderful men and women.

And of course our annual Fire Safety & Community Awareness event on October 21st from 10am-2pm! This event promises to be fun and informative for the entire family, so spread the word! There will be lots of useful information, giveaways, fundraising and things to see! A representative from the FBI Citizens Academy Alumni Association will be at the event to educate attendees about child safety and to help hand out free child id kits. NTJWC members are encouraged to help with this event!

Future projects for the 2012-2013 year include: a retired flag drive (part of our I Will Inspire 5K) and bingo night at the James A Haley Hospital!
